About our Institutional Reform work
We work with public institutions and development organizations to strengthen institutional arrangements, governance systems, and organizational performance. Our work looks at how institutions are structured, how functions and responsibilities are organized, how decisions are made, and how policies and procedures translate into day-to-day operations and what fundamental solutions need to be made. We examine institutional and functional gaps, coordination arrangements, accountability mechanisms, organizational capacity, and operational systems to identify areas for reform and improvement. Our diagnosis and assessments help institutions understand where mandates, structures, systems, and practices are not aligned, why performance gaps occur, and what changes can strengthen institutional effectiveness, accountability, coordination, and service delivery.
Our Approach & Methodology
Organizations operate within changing policy, institutional, and operational environments that can affect their ability to deliver on their mandates. Our approach begins with understanding how an organization is structured and how it operates in practice. Some of the core approaches pursued includes, rule of law and accountability programming, cultural and normative integration, policy analysis, conflict and peacebuilding mapping, diagnostics and analytical assessment etc. We review mandates, policies, organizational structures, procedures, strategic documents, and available performance information, complemented by engagement with leadership, staff, government stakeholders, partners, and other relevant actors. We combine quantitative and qualitative techniques with institutional and functional analyses, using practical tools such as process mapping, functional reviews, stakeholder analysis, organizational structure analysis, workflow analysis, and root cause analysis.
